STATEMENT
OF INTENTDear
Sir/Madam,            I am Xi Kei, 20 years old and
currently a second year actuarial student of the faculty of management at
University of Manitoba and a proud member of this year Dean’s list. With this
letter, I would like to express my strong interest in the participation of the
Asper Exchange program during the winter semester of 2019 as the saying goes “one’s
destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” said by Henry
Miller. The opportunity to study one semester abroad is something that I’m
looking forward to, as it is a unique and once in a lifetime opportunity that
will contribute to my development in many ways. The insights of the exchange
program is the ability to gain first-hand judgment and experience of cultural
difference and similarities in another international environment through
day-to-day interactions with the locals, thus developing a global perspective
and leading to a more nuanced understanding of the world. First of all, I would like to go on exchange because
this amazing opportunity gives me a chance to broaden my organizational and social
skills through the interaction with foreign students during the exchange period
by experiencing educational and cultural differences, which implies that I am
open for other cultures and different perspectives. These are characteristics
that are crucial in our dynamic business world. Besides, going on exchange is a
big challenge for myself, as living in a new and unfamiliar environment will
enable me to gain independence and become more self-reliant. Additionally, the
opportunity to experience another international atmosphere with different habits,
customs, tradition and culture helps to broaden my horizon and general
knowledge. Finally, studying abroad provides me the opportunity to improve my communication
skills by meeting new people and working with students from different
background and cultures. It is also a great platform for me to expand my
network of connections, which would be an advantage for my career. Not to mention, I am an active and involved student
and determined to get the most out of myself and out of life. I achieved decent
academic results and remain actively involved in extra-curricular activities. I
am an active member of the University of Manitoba Volunteer Program where I
spent my free time volunteering events organized by the university. I even
participated in business case competition held by Asper association as to build
up my self-confidence and at the same time improve my speaking skills. I’m eager
to step out of my comfort zone by meeting new people and try new activities
that have never been within my reach before. As a result, I am really convinced
that studying abroad helps me to develop exceptional communication and
presentation skills and prepare me wells to adapt the constantly changing environment.
Therefore, I chose to apply to
University of Leeds because of its outstanding reputation and it is one of the
best universities in the field of business. I sincerely believe that I will be
an excellent ambassador for University of Manitoba as I actively participate in
both academic and social life in the university. I am also more than happy to
share my solely positive experiences of my university life with the people I am
going to meet on exchange. To conclude, I am a motivated, responsible and
hardworking person, who is eager for self-development, and I do believe the
knowledge and experience gain on exchange could add enormous value to my
personality and will contribute further to my professional career goals. I
really welcome the opportunity to experience the British lifestyle by studying
at the University of Leeds. I would like to thank you in advance for
considering my application and hope to hear from you soon.Sincerely,

Xi Kei
